A Southern Season And The Perfect Christmas Tree Project

A Southern Season is supporting Home of the Perfect Christmas Tree, a Mitchell County project by featuring a variety of one-of-a-kind handicrafts made by North Carolina artisans including pottery, weaving, furniture and decorative items.

Saint Augustine’s College To Share Christmas Cheer

Saint Augustine’s College will do its part to make sure some local families have a tree to adorn their home this Christmas. The school plans to donate at least 50 decorated trees as part of the annual Circle of Lights celebration at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3.
Faculty, Staff, and students will compete in a themed tree-decorating contest. The department of student organization with the best design wil lwin a prize. But the ultimate winners will be the families who get to take the trees home.
“This annual event is just one of the ways that Saint Augustine’s college acknowledges its accountability to and presence in our community. Just as importantly, it demonstrates our commitment to the College’s core value of community and diversity,” President Dr. Dianne Boadrley Suber said.

APEX, N.C. — An Apex man is trying to help consumers fight the recession by selling Christmas trees at a low cost.

Danny Schardt has a barnload of North Carolina mountain grown Christmas trees behind his Kelly Road home.

This is the first year he is selling them and says he wanted to set a price that would “help people out” in these tough economic times.

State Capitol Tree Lighting Ceremony Set For Dec. 10

RALEIGH, N.C. — Continuing a decades-long tradition at the North Carolina’s Capitol, Gov. Mike Easley and First Lady Mary Easley will light the colorfully decorated state Christmas tree Wednesday, Dec. 10. Sponsored by the Junior Woman’s Club of Raleigh and the N.C. State Capitol staff, this free, public celebration will begin at 5 p.m. with luminaries being lit on Capitol Square and holiday music being sung by the St. Mary’s School of Raleigh Chorale. At 6:15 p.m., the governor and first lady will hang wreaths on the Capitol’s west door and light the state tree afterwards.

The evening, quickly becoming a family tradition, will feature music by local school groups, SNOW, a countdown to the lighting of the Lucky Strike Water Tower and a few jaw-dropping surprises! Free light wands will be handed out to the first 500 people on the lawn of American Tobacco.
